The quiz story so far ...........................It all began , in another galaxy , far , far away.....oops wrong story. So we all , that is me & my drinking buddies , used to take part in a pop quiz in the Brown Cow pub in Bebington , Wirral circa 1986 onwards - it was a good laugh and we enjoyed it 'cos we occasionally won - but mostly we lost. Then the good old pub decided it wasn't making any money out of the quiz . So we got Albert , as that was his name , a quiz in the Wellington Pub , also in Bebington. I hope I'm not boring you too much with this little anecdote , any way the quiz took off for a good few months , building solidly on a fairish foundation., but once again the excitement started to diminish , as people got fed up of music. So we got Albert sacked . Boo hiss I hear you say :- but from this little misdemeanor sprang the quiz partnership that was .... The Fineog's & Bungee Pop & Trivia QuizWe went from strength to strength , with our quiz master side kick Clive on the mic. and Bungee setting the trivia questions and little old me doing the funtastic music rounds . We brought in thousands of quiz afficionados , well about 20 teams or 60 - 80 people per week. It was heaven - we didn't need paying - just the odd free pint or 6. It went well for 2 years until Clive's business required him to work for once in his life. So we got in the pub landlord's missus Annio to do the speaking parts - once more leaving Bungee & me (or Smashie & Nicey) to carry on drinking but still getting all the glory . We still raised lots for charities , we gave away in excess of £4000 in raffle money including £1000 Jackpots - to Mark Roberts , Peter Holland & some one else I can't remember ..... But the end came when it was discovered that a) We were drinking more than was coming in from the quiz
So we upped and left and went back to the Brown Cow , stayed for 2 years , left , split up as Fineogs & Bungee and just became the "Fineog's Quiz Show" with assorted quiz partners , Ross & Sarah & any one else who could be cajoled into doing the helper bit. Unfortunately the 'Cow was still not the ideal place to do a quiz - so I left and carried on the normal boring day job. And then the manager left the 'Cow and we were asked back , then the manger left and so did I - have you seen the pattern yet. And again it happened , and through all this Sarah stayed as quiz mistress for ages- and in December 1998 we left the 'Cow again and went back to the Wellington , where the guy who started after us , had killed the atmosphere of the quiz - We were begged back at this point - well we asked if they wanted a real quiz - and so after 4 years away from the Wellington - The Fineogs Quiz was back were it all began so many years ago. With Sarah & Jake as quiz mistresses - We gave away lots of money - 3 lots of £1000 in fact. We've had the occasional sojourn to The Village Hotel Brombro' and the Old Bill in Liverpool. But what is this !!!! - the saga continues - Sod Star Wars Episode II -The Clone WarsWe've Got Cow Episode 12 b - The Beer WarsAnd now were back in the Gladstone (formally the Brown Cow) with Laura "T'Model" as Quiz Mistress A new and exciting venue - live music , good food & lots of beer!!!!
Hey guess what? - the manageress left Gladstones and so did we........ So if you're looking for a quiz for your pub on the Wirral drop an email!
And what happened to the other members on the way Bungee has a team in the Welly along with Ross , Sarah has finished Uni , Jake has also finished Uni....and Laura "the model" was our last quiz mistress & she is working at the day job.... & Clive is still working & Annio is in The Imperial Hotel , Tranmere....
So that was the story......
The quiz was last located atGladstones ,Brombrough Road, Bebington , Wirral , Cheshire. On Tuesday nights beginning at about , when we feel like it - say 9:00 for a 9:20 pm startWe have 60 questions split into 6 rounds
We settle tie breaks with fisticuffs - er sorry - with a deck of cards. This all takes about 70 mins. then we give money to the overall winner (£10 to £30) & prizes to the highest Trivia & Music winners (£5 to £15) & of course a bottle of wine or chocs or a cuddly toy for the lowest score. We follow this with a raffle draw - comprising - you buy a ticket for £1 - your ticket comes out - you pick one of the 8 cards and you win either a jackpot or an amount of money at least £5 up to £50 (When we have a big jackpot fund). p.s it was reformed for a one off quiz in Nefyn!!!
